Today’s Question: I have several upcoming holiday parties to attend. What are a few makeup tricks or trends I can try to give me a party-ready face? Kate, Warsaw
A. Kate, this time of year many of my patients want to change up their makeup routine to create a special look for their office parties and family gatherings. I asked the makeup artist at my office to share some of her makeup tips for a festive face this holiday season.
The two keys to remember when applying your holiday makeup this year, Kate, are luminous and lips. Everyone wants a healthy, radiant glow to their skin. It is easy to achieve with a facial primer and brightener worn under your foundation such as jane iredale’s Smooth Affair™ Facial Primer & Brightener. Not only will it help your foundation last longer, but it will also minimize the look of pores, fine lines and give your skin that glowy look of sitting by candlelight. Just like you prime the walls of your home before you paint them; it’s a good idea to prime your skin before you apply foundation. Finish your luminous skin look with an application of BB cream foundation. BB creams offer full coverage perfect for holiday gatherings when you want to look flawless and photo ready all night long.
Besides your skin, the other area you want to focus on this holiday season is the lips. It’s easy to change your entire look by just changing your lip color. A bold color, or bolder than you would normally wear, is the trend this holiday season. The go-to color of the season is oxblood, a deep burgundy-wine color. If that color is just too dramatic for you, Kate, you can still incorporate that popular look by selecting a sheer tint of that shade that gives just a wash of color instead of a lipstick or lip stain such as jane iredale’s Just Kissed in Montreal. Be sure that you exfoliate your lips first, so your lip color is applied evenly. You can even use a soft, old toothbrush to slough off the old skin! To give the illusion of fuller lips, after you have applied your lip color, apply some lip gloss in just the center of your lips. You will have the perfect pout ready for under the mistletoe!
Kate, with just a few simple makeup tricks you will be looking healthy for all of your holiday festivities. If you have any questions about the best colors for you or want additional application tips, be sure to consult with a professional makeup artist.
